The final leg of the journey

First stop at the volcano national park. Beth gets a whiff of sulphur coming up through a steam vent,

Bev looking at the main volcano crater.

Another inactive crater.

We walked through a lava tube.

Clambering over a lava field.

Bev sitting in a hole in the lava field.

A closer look at the colours in the lava rocks...

Flowering tree much like our pohutakawa growing out of the lava.

We fought a howling gale to get to the petroglyphs in the background.

And it was worth the walk.

Sunset on a rocky beach just around the corner from a hot pool.

On the scenic route going north from Hilo.

An example of the local transport.

Chuck in Hanaka'a gave us a guided tour of his home behind the fish shop (We stopped to pick up some local smoked fish.)

Bev on the trail to Akaka Falls.

Closer view of the falls.

Later at Umauma Falls in the World Botanical Gardens.

Next day, Angel Falls right outside of Hilo.

Bev on the trail to the top.

Beth overlooking the river that flows over Angel Falls.

The Boiling Pots above Angel Falls.

At a swimming beach in Hilo.

The turtles came in to play.

And the locals fed them.

And then we had a big feed at Ken's before catching the plane home.
